Lots of people love jetting off on holidays.

After all, it’s hard not to enjoy the thought of soaking up the sun, sipping cocktails and relaxing by the pool. But sometimes the most stressful part of the journey can be getting there.

If you travel via Ryanair a travel guru has recently shared some advice you may want to pay attention to. He claims there’s a simple way to swerve the seat allocation process and “bag the best seats”.

The content creator, known as Live_TheDash on TikTok, said the function means you “don’t pay any extra for your seat on the plane”. However, he told people not to be “fooled” by the process.

He explained: “This function should actually be called guaranteed middle seat, in the middle of the plane, as far away from the rest of your party as the algorithm will allow, but you can beat the system.

“If you do decide to cave in, and buy a seat on the plane, please remember these golden rules. Choose a seat in front of an extra legroom chair to guarantee noone kicks you in the back.

“The right hand side of the plane actually has one less row, so you get an extra inch of leg room in D, E and F. Remember, row one is just a permanent ticket to a never-ending toilet queue.

“But if you really don’t want to pay, there is another option. Hang around the check-in desk like a bad smell, enter using the back door and make sure you’re the very last person on the plane.

“As you walk down the cabin, choose any free chair you like.”

The video has been viewed over 24,000 times since it’s been shared, and people were quick to comment too. They had all sorts of thoughts and ideas.

One said: “Never pay the extra and always have good places.” Another added: “Couldn’t care less where I sit.”

A third also replied: “I just wait until the last minute to check in, and always end up with the best seat.”

Ryanair’s seat policy

If you travel with Ryanair, you have the option to purchase reserved seats or free seats. These are assigned randomly during check-in.

Passengers who opt for “random seat allocation” are able to check in between 24 hours and two hours before the flight is due to depart. However, if you buy a seat when you book, during check-in, or at any point leading-up to your flight, you are able to choose your seat and reserve it.

Online check-in will be available to customers 60 days before the scheduled departure time if they’ve paid for an allocated seat. The price will all depend on where you choose to sit.

Explaining what random seat allocation is, the website states: “If you choose not to pay to reserve a seat, your seat will be assigned to you free of charge when you check in, between 24 hours and two hours prior to departure.”
